LinkedIn is a tremendous benefit because it allows you to reach the hiring person directly. I use LinkedIn to reach out to a second-level connection - people who are connected to my first-degree connections - with an introductory video.
Tip 4: Increase your public speaking confidence.
Once you landed the interview, now it is time to make yourself shine. If you have trouble with public speaking or want to know how to articulate your thoughts more succinctly, consider joining a Toastmasters International chapter. According to their website, Toastmasters empowers individuals to become more effective communicators and leaders. As a professional speaker, I find Toastmasters to be a wonderful, safe place to practice new material. I have also seen firsthand the transformation of those who want to transition their careers to become more confident in their speaking ability.
Tip 5: Always write a handwritten thank you note when you have the address.
Just as LinkedIn might be the new way of relationship building, I still believe the old- fashioned pen, paper and a thank you note go a long way when building rapport. A prac- tice taught to me by my parents when I was a child still goes a long way today. After each memorable engagement, write a handwritten thank you note. I ask for a clients snail mail address, and I do my best to send them a handwritten message after the engagement. People remember what is tactile. The letter is almost like a gift. And people remember you. Why? Because you stand out. How many handwritten notes have you received from a person you just met last

month? If your answer is none , how many of you would remember the one person who sent you a handwritten note? There are certainly more than five tips to explore when going into your next career progression. However, the action step is to begin. Build your plan and start taking steps toward it.
