Military Spouse Preference Program
With the help of the Military Spouse Preference program, you could be eligible for certain preferences when applying for Department of Defense civilian jobs, including civil service careers overseas. Contact the human resources office at your duty station or visit MilitaryINSTALLA- TIONS (installations.military- onesource.mil) to apply for the Priority Placement Pro- gram for military spouses.
Resources for Transferring Professional Licenses
The Defense-State Liaison Office, from the Department of Defense, has worked to streamline state licensing procedures to make it easier for military spouses to find a job. These streamlined procedures still require the military spouse to apply for a license, so there may be some delays and costs involved. Depending on your work, some occupations have established interstate compacts, which can help further reduce or eliminate the relicensing process, if your new state has approved the compact. You can apply for up to $1,000 from your service branch in licensure and certi- fication costs resulting from relocations or military moves within the United States or OCONUS to stateside. If the process turns out to be lengthy or costly, you may be eligible for unemployment compensation. Your states employment office can offer more details.
