Eligibility Route for Military Personnel
The Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) and Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) certifications have each had an eligibility route specific to military personnel, and now the Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) certification does too. Military personnel have been eligible under Route 2 but it may not have been easily identifiable. The ASCP Board of Certification (BOC) represents the gold standard for certification of laboratory professionals. Most employers look for the ASCP credential. WHEN AND WHERE ARE ASCP EXAMS OFFERED? ASCP BOC certification exams are administered year-round. Eligible candidates can take the exam at any of the worldwide Pearson Professional Centers or at military bases. YOUR CERTIFICATION:

IF YOU COMPLETED: 50 week U.S. Military Medical Laboratory training course High school graduation or equivalent Certification Examination YOUR CERTIFICATION:
Medical Laboratory Technician, MLT(ASCP)
IF YOU COMPLETED: 50 week U.S. Military Medical Laboratory training course Associate degree or acceptable coursework Certification Examination YOUR CERTIFICATION:
Medical Laboratory Scientist, MLS(ASCP)
IF YOU COMPLETED: 50 week U.S. Military Medical Laboratory training course Baccalaureate degree with specific course work One year of full time acceptable clinical experience Certification Examination
